Does a rhinoplasty hurt? Unfortunately yes, although pain varies from person to person. There are many ways we mitigate pain, such as ice, head of bed elevation, our new non-narcotic pain medicine Journavx, Arnica before and after surgery, nasal saline rinse, and others.

Will insurance pay for it? If you suffer from breathing obstruction related to nasal bone or septal deviation, insurance may, if they deem it necessary, pay for the functional portion of the procedure. Any cosmetic work to the appearance of the nose is NOT covered.

Do you have to break my nasal bones? This varies depending on nasal anatomy and your aesthetic goals.

How long will me nasal splint stay on? 10-14 days and then it will fall off on it’s own.

Commonly Asked Questions

How much does a Rhinoplasty cost?
Rhinoplasty cost varies widely depending on where you live and the complexity/difficulty of surgery. Revisionary rhinoplasty tends to cost more than a primary rhinoplasty. A rhinoplasty in Wichita, KS ranges from $8,000-$11,000. A consultation can help determine your specific cost.
How do I find the best Rhinoplasty surgeon near me?
When selecting a surgeon to do your rhinoplasty, it is critical to make sure that the surgeon:
  • does a high number of rhinoplasty surgery every month,
  • is a board-certified plastic surgeon,
  • has additional fellowship training in facial surgery,
  • can show you his/her before and after photos,
  • can confidently analyze your nose and give you personalized recommendations
  • listens to your concerns and goals
What is a liquid Rhinoplasty or filler Rhinoplasty? Can this address my concerns?

A liquid or filler rhinoplasty involved the injection of dermal fillers into the nose to camouflage concerns about the nose, such as a nose hump or droopy tip. Although filler can help the appearance of the nose, it is not permanent, it can have severe complications if not done by a skilled injector, and it is only a camouflaging treatment that can often distort and exaggerate disproportions with the nose. A liquid rhinoplasty is not an ideal procedure for those patient who wish to accomplish a nose in facial harmony with the rest of the face. It should only be used to address minor concerns.

Am I a candidate for Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty may be a good option for patients who are in good overall health, would like to improve the appearance or function of their nose, and have realistic expectations of the result. Common concerns that can be addressed include a dorsal hump, wide nose, crooked nose, a drooping tip or bulbous tip, or difficulty breathing. A consultation allows your surgeon to evaluate your goals, nasal structure, and overall facial balance.

What concerns can Rhinoplasty address?
Rhinoplasty is a highly customized procedure, intended to address your biggest concerns about your nose and it is tailored to you, as well as the recommendations of your surgeon. However, the most common issues that are we address include: decreasing the size of a big nose, narrowing a wide nose, de-projecting a very prominent nose, straightening a crooked nose, removing a nose hump, and lifting a droopy nose tip.
How do I know what my results will look like?

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and concerns about your nose. We also ask that you bring examples of noses that you like. Although we can not replicate someone else’s nose on your face, this helps us to understand what features you like in a nose. Careful communication helps ensure your results align closely with your expectations and natural facial proportions. We do not use nose simulations as these can not accurately account for the nasal skin/soft tissue and do not give a realistic expectation of the results.

Can a Rhinoplasty fix appearance and breathing? Can a Rhinoplasty be covered by insurance?

Rhinoplasty can be performed to improve appearance (cosmetic), improve breathing (functional), or improve both (combined). Some patients seek aesthetic refinement, while others need correction of breathing issues or structural concerns. In many cases, both goals can be addressed in a single procedure. If it deems medically necessary, your insurance can help cover the cost of the functional component of your rhinoplasty.

What is the difference between open and closed Rhinoplasty?
In an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), allowing for greater visibility and precision. In a closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nose. The best approach depends on your anatomy and the complexity of the changes being made.
What is recovery like after Rhinoplasty?
rhinoplasty?
Most patients experience swelling, bruising, and congestion during the first week. Pain and swelling is at its worst in the first 3 days after surgery, but can be well controlled with oral pain medicine. Bruising around the eyes can be expected with nasal bones are broken.
An external cast is typically worn for about 10-14 days. Internal splints, if placed, are removed at 7 days. Sutures are also removed at 7 days. You can not lift more than 10 lbs, bend over, or elevate your heart rate for the first 2 weeks after surgery. No contact sports, ball sports, or blowing your nose for 6 weeks after surgery.
Many patients return to work or school within a week. The majority of swelling fades in the first 2 weeks; however, for all swelling to be gone—especially in the nasal tip—can take several months to fully resolve.
When will I see my final results?

Results are immediately visible once the splint is removed, but the nose continues to refine as swelling subsides. While most swelling improves within a few weeks, final results can take up to a year, particularly in the nasal tip.

Will there be visible scars?

In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are hidden the nose. In open rhinoplasty, the small incision across the columella typically heals very well, is hidden on the underside of your nose, and becomes barely noticeable over time.

Can rhinoplasty improve breathing?

Yes. Rhinoplasty can address structural issues such as a deviated septum or nasal valve collapse, which may improve airflow and breathing. This is often referred to as functional rhinoplasty and can be performed alongside cosmetic changes. Your insurance can often help pay for the functional components of the rhinoplasty.
